Joakim Nyarangi is a registered and licenced Planner in private practice as Senior Planning and GIS Consultant with GIS Limited, based in Nairobi. He has an Urban and Regional Planning Bachelor’s degree and a GIS master’s degree from the University of Nairobi.
Joakim began his career in 2009 as a Planning Assistant and GIS Specialist in various Planning Consultancy Firms. His focus includes Strategic Urban Planning, GIS for Planning, Urban Economic Development, Planning Advocacy, Strategic Environmental Assessment, and Environmental Conservation.
He has been engaged in the preparation of the Integrated Coast Region Master Plan 2010-2030, Digital topographical Mapping and Preparation of Integrated Strategic Urban Development Plans for Bomet and Narok Towns, Strategic Environmental Assessment of Developments at the Tana River Delta, Lamu Archipelago and Mara River Basin. He was also been involved in research assignments to guide preparation of Donor funded Sustainable Urban Economic Development Programmes, Preparation of a Heritage Site Management Plan for Lamu Old Town and preparation of an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan for the City of Nairobi
Joakim is an active corporate Member and currently the Secretary of the Kenya Institute of Planners (KIP) as well as Member of the Task Force that planned KIP’s National Annual Conference, 2015. He is a former acting vice-chairperson of the Young Planners Forum as well as Secretary of the Golden Gate Residents’ Welfare Association.
