The Institute has chapters that span the breadth of professional planning disciplines commonly engaged in the planning process. All members of the Institute may belong to one or more chapters established along industry disciplines, and subject to minimum eligibility criteria set out below;
- Urban and Regional Planning – possess a professional degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Spatial Planning, Land use Planning, Town and Country Planning
- Urban Design – possess a professional degree in Town planning, Urban Design and Development, Urban Renewal and Revitalization, Development Control and Facilitation
- Social and Community Development Planning – possess a base professional degree in Urban and Regional Planning, in addition to background qualification or specialization degree in social and community development planning
- Environment Planning – possess a base professional degree in Urban and Regional Planning, in addition to background qualification or specialization degree in Environmental Planning and Management
- Economic Development Planning – possess a base professional degree in Urban and Regional Planning, in addition to background qualification or specialization degree in Economic Planning, Regional Planning or Urban Management
- Transportation and Infrastructure Planning – possess a base professional degree in Urban and Regional Planning, in addition to background qualification or specialization degree in Transportation and traffic Planning and Management or Infrastructure and Utilities Planning and Management
- Planning Educators – possess an academic qualification in any of the industry disciplines that make up the Institute’s Chapters, and is currently involved in the training of planners
