Who we are

The Kenya Institute of Planners (KIP) is the premiere umbrella body representing professional planners in Kenya. The Institute brings together Physical and Land Use Planners, Economic Development Planners, Transportation and Infrastructure Planners, Social and Community Planners, Environmental Planners, and Urban Designers in Kenya to promote their welfare, professional development and education.

KIP at AUF2

KIP and UN HABITAT convened a strategic Side Event at the Second Africa Urban Forum (AUF2) on “Advancing African Union Priorities, Regional Integration, Professional Standards and Sustainable Urban Development: Forging a Unified African Planning Profession”.

KIP President's Dinner & Awards

Held on March 27th 2026, this ceremony aimed at strengthening the social contract between planners and the stakeholders who finance and legislate urban development through conferment of Honorary Membership to 16 outstanding champions of sustainable development; and formal recognition of Partner Institutions to validate the cross-disciplinary effort required to meet AU Agenda 2063 goals.

Institutional Recognition

Since its formation, KIP has proceeded to establish itself as the foremost professional association of planners in Kenya. Subsequently, KIP has obtained international recognition, as the officially recognized body mandated to speak on behalf of the planning fraternity in Kenya. KIP is an institutional member of regional and international bodies such as the Association of Professional Societies of East Africa (APSEA), the Commonwealth Association of Planners (CAP) and the International Society of City and Regional Planner (ISOCARP).
