The Kenya Institute of Planners was formed in the year 2001 following the commencement of the Physical Planners Registration Act (PPRA). The Institute was formed pursuant to Section 12 (b) of the Act, which had anticipated the formation and approval of a professional institute for planners. On 4th April 2001, the Physical Planners Registration Board (PPRB) recognized and approved the Institute as a learned society for the legitimate professional discipline and practice of Planning in Kenya, and the sole national body for purposes of planners’ representation. The Institute brings together urban and regional planners, economic development planners, transportation planners, social planners, environmental planners and urban designers in Kenya.
