KIP at the Devolution Conference 2025

The Devolution Conference 2025 was organized by the Council of Governors (CoG) together with various State and Non-State actors to mark a significant milestone in Kenya’s Devolution journey and provide a platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and innovations in devolved governance.

The Conference took place from August 12 to 15 in Homa Bay County. This year’s theme:

“For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice.”

KIP through the President Plan. Fawcett Komollo spoke on the topic:

“Urban Resilience in Action: Leveraging the National Building Code, 2024 for Sustainable Infrastructure in Counties”

hosted by the National Construction Authority on Thursday, 14th August 2025.

In this session, alongside the Presidents of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and The Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) respectively, and the GM of  Kenya Property Developers Association (KPDA), the discussion revolved around how the National Building Code 2024 can be effectively implemented.

The President raised concerns about the exclusion of Planners in the sensitization (and ownership) of the NBC 2024. He also called on all professionals, including Planners to familiarize themselves with the Code, and mainstream it in the new Urban Plans, Zoning Plans, Slum Upgrading Plans, etc. With the NCA reaffirming the role of Planners, KIP looks forward to more engagements on how the NBC 2024 can be innovatively implemented across all the 47 Counties.
