Western Region Branch
KIP Western Region Branch was formed on 15th February 2022 in accordance with the New KIP constitution, for effective promotion of the association objectives, business plan and corporate obligations. The branch is in the process of establishing an office, meanwhile it is operating at one of the members’ offices at Kisumu City Business Park, located along Omollo Agar Road, building block A Door 58.

Our Leadership
As outlined in the New KIP constitution, members are to elect three corporate members, i.e. chairperson, secretary and treasurer to coordinate and oversee the operations of the branch on behalf of the Governing Council. Currently, the leadership is:

MEMBERSHIP
The branch has members drawn from private practice, academia and public sector, as outlined in the KIP constitution, the counties served by the branch are Kisumu, Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay and Migori, which county coordinators connect with the branch office stationed in Kisumu.
PROGRAMMES, ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES.
- The Branch through the Chairperson filed a case in the Land and Environment Court in Milimani, Kisumu on the unregulated land subdivision, partition, reparcellation and amalgamation in the region. The case questions non-involvement of physical planners and the county government in the approval process and the validity of the products, Title deeds. The Case is on course, and we are still waiting for ruling. Court Submissions to the attached
- Formation of the Media Committee; to help create awareness of the profession and a communication channel with the community in relation to planning. The Committee members are drawn from the planning sector, currently chaired by Katline Obiero and Juliana Ohinya, the secretary. (Photo of the members in the last physical meeting).
- Traversing the planning authorities within the branch, to assess the level of planning practice and structures in compliance to the Physical and Land use Planning Act No.13 of 2019 and other related legislations. So far, the office has visited 4 counties, Kisumu, Homabay, Vihiga and Kakamega but it is still on course.
- The region is in the process of preparing a convention, though still in the early stages, of the members in the region, early this year to deliberate on issues affecting the profession and mitigate to ensure public benefits from the profession.
EVENTS
The branch, through the support of members and various stakeholders, conducted a successful Town Planning Day celebration on 8th November 2022 held in Kisumu, Grace Ogot Social Hall.
